So we’re three weeks into the Mentorship Program and so far it’s been great. You can read more about my enriching experience here- Week 1, Week 2.

In Week 3, we dived more into Open Source and how one can contribute to it.

Our mentor, Saumya Singh told us that in open source, it is just not the project that helps you in skill-building, but the networking is also vital and beneficial. It allows you access to opportunities you might not be able to find on your own. She mentioned that open source contributions act as a cherry on the cake for your profile.

We talked about various opportunities one can apply to. These are as follows:

  1. Github Campus Expert: The GitHub Campus Expert program is an amazing opportunity to help your local community.
  2. Hackerearth Challenges: They host virtual hackathons and bring together people with diverse skills and solve business challenges. These are great for practicing your skills. Hackerearth also keeps introducing hiring challenges where one can compete to interview for job or internship opportunities.
  3. Devfolio: It is also a great community of developers. They also keep organizing hackathons.

Towards the end of the session, we talked about time management. Since so many opportunities can be overwhelming at first, we need to manage our time properly to get the most out of each experience.

Our mentor ended the session by saying, ‘Sky is not the limit, we are’. And I agree with this. We can achieve anything if we set our minds to it. There are no limits out here, the only limits are those that you impose upon yourself. It is all about the mindset. Believe in yourself, believe in the work that you put. And see how things start changing around you.

All in all, it was a really nice session. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a fruitful week and I am looking forward to Week 4.

Hope this blog helped you in some way :)
